During the winter months, our area tends to get quite a bit
of snow and ice. And if you just had decorative
concrete installed at your Bloomington home, you might be worried about
what might happen to it as a result of bad weather, de-icer and the normal wear
and tear that concrete deals with on a regular basis. Here are a few suggestions
on what to do to keep your decorative concrete looking great this winter and
every winter to come.
On a weekly basis, take a few minutes to sweep and clean off
your decorative concrete. Use water if it isn’t too cold out, and make sure you
get as much dirt off of the concrete as possible. While all of the decorative
concrete we install has a sealer applied to it beforehand, keeping it clean
helps prevent dirt from building up on it, especially during the cold winter
months.
Avoid using de-icers on your decorative concrete. De-icers
will not damage the sealer on the concrete, but it will mix with water and get
into the concrete in and around the sealer. Then the water will freeze and
melt, which can then damage the concrete. It is best to not use de-icers and
find another way to get the ice off of it. There are some de-icers on the
market that are safe for decorative concrete though.
Every few years, look into having your decorative concrete
resealed. A professional service like ours can take care of this for you so you
know it will be done right. Give us a call and we can come out and make sure
the sealer is applied properly so your concrete is protected.
After any snowfall, no matter how light the snowfall is,
shovel the snow and ice off of your concrete as soon as it is safe to do so. Do
not allow water to continually freeze, thaw and refreeze on your decorative
concrete. As mentioned, this can do a lot of damage to it over time.
Keep your decorative concrete looking its best this winter
by following these guidelines, and you should be able to enjoy it for many
years to come! And if you have any questions, call the experts here at Wohlwend
